Atlanta Performance Venues
This page is intended to help touring performers who visit Atlanta.
The primary venue for Atlanta musical theatre performances is the Fox Theatre in Midtown. The Fox is located in the middle of the
map on the right, just north of Ponce de Leon on Peachtree St.
Performers at the Fox are either housed in Midtown (begins about three blocks south of the Fox - and goes north to about 18th street)
or Downtown (everything more than three blocks
south of the Fox) hotels. Midtown is generally nicer than Downtown, although the Centennial Olympic Park/Georgia Aquarium area is very
pleasant.
Midtown is undergoing a huge development spurt. Many restaurants are located in street-level spaces of new high-rises.
Atlanta's most well-known greenspace, Piedmont Park, is located north of 10th Street and two blocks east of Peachtree Street.
Atlanta is best known for its beautiful older neighborhoods. The homes in Midtown alternate between a little run-down and beautifully
renovated. Myrtle and Penn Streets are just a few blocks east of the Fox and make a pleasant walk as you head north. One of Atlanta's
nicest neighborhoods is Ansley Park, starting about 12 blocks north of the Fox. Walk north to 15th St. and turn right to enter Ansley.
Bookstores
A large Barnes & Noble bookstore is located about 5 blocks northwest of the Fox at the corner of 5th St. and Spring.
While Midtown used to be the center of gay
Atlanta, only a few (but usually quite good) gay businesses remain, centered around 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue. Outwrite Books
at that corner is one of the best independent gay bookstores in the U.S. Both bookstores include in-store coffee shops.
Gyms
The largest gym near the Fox is the LA Fitness Center at 75 5th St NW., almost adjacent to the Barnes & Noble bookstore.
Other Venues
Some shows use the new Cobb Energy
Performing Arts Centre on the far northwest side of Atlanta (not pictured; about 10 miles NW of the Fox). A few shows use the Atlanta Civic Center
(lower right center of the map, above the big interchange) or other downtown venues.
